Educational Requirements To Become Designers & Drafters

Individuals planning careers in drafting should take courses in mathematics, science, computer technology, design and computer graphics, and drafting at the high school level where possible.

A 2 year degree in Drafting or Design or equivalent on the job experience is preferred by most employers. During the summer watch for internships, as well as externships through your local college, Vocational school, or specialty training programs.

Educational Requirements To Become An Engineer

Students who are interested in pursuing a degree in engineering can prepare for the application process as early as middle school. By selecting a variety of science, mathematics, and engineering-related course work and participating in programs and projects that expose students to engineering concepts, students will have advanced exposure to university level work.

Individuals planning careers in engineering should take courses in mathematics, science, computer technology, and language arts at the high school level where possible. At a university level, students can choose one of the following fields of engineering.

  • Process/Chemical
  • Mechanical/Piping
  • Civil/Structural
  • Electrical/Power
  • Instrumentation/Controls
